The Monkeyland and Birds of Eden forests are Afromontane forests. Afromontane forests manifest in distinct strata of herbs and shrubbery, canopy trees and emergent trees, which can grow to be 40 metres tall.

Monkeyland constantly runs an internal reforestation program and, to this end, regularly have specials during which people can donate indigenous trees (endemic to our forests) instead of paying an entry fee. For more information on an upcoming special please contact Lara.

It is worth mentioning that the Birds of Eden forest exists on what used to be a farm dumpsite. Over the years Monkeyland and Birds of Eden have worked continuously to ensure the longevity of the forests in and around the sanctuaries.
